Write In Ron Paul?

Write In Ron Paul?

Dearest Ron Paul Supporters,

I was one of you.  I walked next to you, clouded in the idealistic dream of no income taxes, return to constitutional purity, small government and the end of Neo-Conservative gluttony.  As Sarah Palin would say, "Gosh Darn it, now, we've got to use our heads".  It's time to put idealism aside and start thinking with some logic.

Starting with getting our facts straight.  For those of you not aware, Write-In votes in most states will NOT be counted.  Most states have one of three rules applying to write-in ballots for the presidential election.  1. No write-ins allowed.  2. A candidate who has lost the presidency cannot be elected through write-in (that is Missouri's specific ruling, all you who reside here in my area) and 3.  The write-in candidate must have registered AS a write in candidate.  Ron Paul did not.

In fact Ron Paul, himself, is quoted stating ""I don’t think that’s very productive. Supporters can do it, of course, but in most of the states it won’t count. And if they can change the rules in a primary and not count all the votes, imagine what they could do with write-in votes!"

Now, moving on the second important factor in all of this.  Even IF Ron Paul write-ins were counted, a vote for Ron Paul may as well be a vote for Barak Obama.  Ron Paul supporters are clearly a conservative group.  Emphasizing small government, limited spending, and even many conservative social ideals, it is clear that a win for Obama is a great loss for his supporters.

Have you watched the polls?  Obama is up. WAY up.  Why on Earth would that be?  Because those conservatives casting votes this year that are hanging to their Ron Paul notions of idealism are ultimately throwing away their votes and TAKING the vote from McCain.  This is not about supporting McCain, but, for a Ron Paul supporter, it is about fighting Socialism from entering this nation.  A vote FOR McCain is not saying you believe his platform, it is saying you recognize what Obama truly stands for and you are saying NO.  You are saying, "I will suffer economically.  I will deal with an insane old man who thinks we are friends, I will support someone who I do not line up with and I do not believe in.  I will make these sacrifices, because I see the downward spiral Obama start, because I am smart enough to recognize the evil of it, and I will stand against it."

And in case you are still in denial, there have been NO liberals wandering about planning to support Ron Paul or write him in.  Ron Paul is the antithesis of a Liberal.  The write-ins will steal no votes from Obama.  It's not going to happen.

No will the write-in votes start some sort of revolution.  It does not send a message.  It will NOT provoke change.  It will not inspire the masses.  The only way to make change is to use intelligence and logic, planning and preparation and work within the systems at our disposal.  This is not one of those ways.

It has been said "The enemy of my enemy is my friend".  Ron Paul's enemy is Socialism, big government, wasteful spending.  Everything you, as a write-in voter, are allowing to conquer.  Write-in Ron Paul.  Vote against yourself.  Sure...that makes sense.

It's dawned on me that Ron Paul supporters just may win the election for Obama.

Sincerely,

D
